If you are trying to decide whether or not to use an architect for the design of your new home please take some time and consider what I have to say. I'm sure you know whether or not you are getting ready to build your dream home or a home that you may spend some time in before you move onward and upward. I believe there are actually some times when a good set of stock house plans might be just what you need. Certainly there are some very real pitfalls using stock plans. Even when using these plans I would suggest that you hire an architect to review the plans with you.
However, if you think its time to build that dream house that you think you might live out your life in or raise your family in then please give strong consideration to what I am about to say.

WHAT'S AT STAKE?
The answer is 'EVERYTHING'. Why would make what may be the single largest investment you'll ever make without giving yourself the best chance to get what you want. You will spend most of your life inside your home. Consider that your home is the only place in the whole world that can truly be created exactly how you want. Have you ever been in an office where you hated everthing about it? The lighting was bad, perhaps you didn't have any windows, the colors were bad, the room was too small and then you were lucky enough to move to a office that you
really liked. Do you remember how much happier it made you even to the point where you looked forward to going to work each and every day. Well, that is nothing compared to what your house can do for you. I truly believe that a good house can make your life better than you ever imagined. This is why I would like you to consider letting me design your home for you. No two people are alike which is exactly why no set of stock plans can satisfy the needs of everyone. There are a number of reasons why people do not hire architects. Two of the main reasons are that people think architects are expensive and that the homes architects design are too expensive. I also think that a lot of people are not exactly sure what it is that an architect can do for them. Just like other people, no two architects are the same. Finding the right architect is difficult.

I have been designing homes for over 24 years. I've learned that doing a great house is all about understanding the people I'm working for and wanting to make the dreams of my clients come true rather than focusing on some sort of design award. I've also discovered that this is a unique approach for architects. I will tell you that most of my homes are located in the mountains of western NC and rural areas so I tend to use natural materials like stone, wood and stucco.
The main thing though is my commitment to making my clients happy and the joy I get from making a couple or family's life better.
This is one of the reasons why I believe an architect must have reasonable fees and an array of options. My fees start between $2,000.00 and $3,000.00 depending on the size of your project and the amount of work you want.
Floor plans and elevations and the work to create them may be all you need from us. A full set of construction documents is our preference because it is your best chance to get exactly what you are after. However, with floor plans, elevations, notes and a great contractor, you may be able to obtain that dream.
